Emma Atkinson received the B.S. degree in biomedical engineering with a concentration in bioinstrumentation from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, USA, in 2019.
In 2019, she joined the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Natick, MA, USA, as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education Research Fellow and transitioned to a Department of Defense (DoD) civilian position in 2023. During her time at USARIEM, she has worked as a biomedical engineer conducting research on how the feedback of real-time physiologic data during rigorous military training events can predict the onset of exertional heat illness. Her research interests include physiological signal analysis, algorithm development, and the use of real-time physiological status monitors during military training events to prevent the occurrence of heat injuries.
