Biography
Elsayed Elkhatib is a Professor of Environmental Soil Chemistry at Alexandria University in Egypt, he received his BSc and MSc Degrees in Soil Science from Alexandria University and a PhD Degree in Soil Chemistry from West Virginia University ,USA. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Appalachian Soil and Water Conservation Research Laboratory at Beckley and as a Visiting scientist at Virginia Polytechnique Institute and State University, at Blacksburg for two and a half years. He has also served as an Associate Professor in United Arab Emirates for five years.
Professor Elkhatib began his career working on the role of soil properties on soil chemical processes including the chemistry and transport of arsenic in soils, the rates and mechanisms of phosphorus and potassium release from soils. He developed methods for obtaining soil solution as well as simultaneous determination of low molecular weight organic acids in soil solution. During the last ten years he developed an active research program to study the fate of contaminants under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. His recent interests include management of hazardous wastes and the role of organic complexing agents on the phytoremediation of heavy metals contaminated soils.
Professor Elkhatib has published more than 60 papers in referee journals and has authored or edited over fifteen books in soil chemistry, fertility and soil and water pollution. He has been the Associate and Regional Editor of several National and international journals. He received the Alexandria University Award for Scientific Merit in1989, the State Promotional (Incentive) Award in Agriculture Sciences in 1993 and First Class Ribbon of Distinction from the President of Egypt in 1995. Professor Elkhatib is currently a director of the program on Developing MSc in Water Research Management at Alexandria University" and is engaged in several projects on the subject of Agricultural Land Application of Biosolids and Water Treatment Residuals.
