个人简介
I qualified as a clinical midwife in 2004, and retain a passion and love for midwifery practice. My first research job was recruiting women into a clinical trial for a new drug to delay preterm labour and I continued in a research role supporting NIHR portfolio studies as a clinical research midwife. During this time, I became interested in the physiology of contractions and preterm birth and was successful in securing a PhD Fellowship at Warwick Medical School. My Phd study was on the physiology of contractions with a view to developing therapeutic targets for the prevention of pre-term birth and the treatment of post-partum haemorrhage. The study of this topic evolved from a motivation to support the women I had cared for in pre-term labour, and the emotional burden that comes with pre-term birth, a condition which is not declining, and which is subject to ongoing health inequalities. Following my PhD studies, I took up a Midwife Research Fellow post at Imperial College Healthcare Trust and then UHCW NHS Trust/Coventry University working on research and innovation projects aiming to understand family experiences of care, improve midwifery care and the working experiences of midwives. I was an NIHR 70@70 Research Midwife leader (2019-2021) and continue to work with the NIHR 70@70 cohort to increase the visibility of midwifery research. I have supervised midwives undertaking NIHR funded doctoral studies and non-clinical doctoral students to successful completion. I moved to Birmingham City University in 2021 to become the Director for the Elizabeth Bryan Multiple Births Centre which aims to become an internationally renowned centre for excellence in education, practice and research into multiple pregnancy, birth and life course of families with multiples.
