After graduating in Biology at the University of Naples Federico II, I attended a training course in "Advanced genomic and bioinformatic technologies applied to the genetic improvement of plants" (GENOPOM-PRO) with a final internship at the seed company La Semiorto Sementi, for laboratory and field activities (Research and Development). Subsequently, I joined IPSP-CNR through a first collaboration with Dr Bernardo, with whom I conducted a research activity about the biological control of pests in protected tomato crops by using useful insects (PRIPOM). Then I started to work as a research fellow in Plant Virology with Dr Parrella, still my Scientific tutor. During these years, I also collaborated with Prof Vinale, studying the alterations of plant metabolic patterns occurring during a viral infection (PROTECTION), experimenting biological control (with microbial consortia) of plant viruses (BIOAGRO), and biological control (with beneficial fungi and their metabolites) of grapevine parasitic nematodes transmitting viruses (DIONISO). Actual research is focused on monitoring of viruses, viroids and Phytoplasmas including some Quarantine pests, as well as their vectors, identification by serological and molecular diagnostic assays, study of the biological-molecular variability of viral strains, and characterization of mitochondrial variants of Bemisia tabaci (URCOFI, in collaboration with Campania Region). Thanks to the Bilateral Accord with the Korean University of Sungkyunkwan, I evaluated the seed transmissibility of ToLCNDV in Cucurbits. Actually, my Research Team also has a collaboration with the Consorzio San Marzano, regarding the constitution of a tomato variety resistant to some viruses, through markers assisted selection.
