Bio
Elena Montiel-Ponsoda is Lecturer of the Applied Linguistics Department at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM, (2012) and member of the Ontology Engineering Group (2006).
She holds a M.A. in Conference Interpreting and Translation (2000) from Universidad de Alicante, a B.A. in Technical Interpreting (2003) from Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, Germany, and a PhD on Applied Linguistics (2011) from UPM.
Her research interests are at the intersection between translation (and terminology) and knowledge representation (ontologies, linked data), including amongst others: ontology localization and lexicalization, lexico-syntactic patterns for ontology development, functional models for deep semantics analysis, sentiment analysis, and linguistic linked data for content analytics.
She has participated in several international and national projects in these areas (NeOn, ICPS, Monnet, BabeLData, etc.). Currently, she is participating in the European project LIDER.
She has visited several research institutions as part of her doctoral and post-doctoral training (Language Technology Lab at DFKI, Germany; NLP Group at the University of Sheffield, UK; Semantic Computing Group at the Universität Bielefeld, Germany).
She has co-organized workshops (“Multilingual Semantic Web” at WWW2010 and at ISWC2011; “Linked Data in Linguistics” at LREC2014; MultilingualWeb workshop in Madrid, 2014), tutorials ("Enriching the Semantic Web with Linguistic Information" at ESWC2011), conferences (TKE2013) and has recently co-chaired the Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval track at the ESWC2014.
She actively participates in the activities of several W3C Community Groups: Ontolex (Ontology-Lexica Community Group), BMLOD (Best Practices for Multilingual Linked Open Data), and ld4lt (Linked Data for Language Technologies).
She has published the book "Multilingualism in Ontologies. Building Patterns and Representation Models", and papers in journals, conferences and workshops in the areas of Applied Linguistics, Semantic Web, and Computational Linguistics. She usually acts as reviewer for peer-reviewed journals (Journal of Web Semantics, Semantic Web Journal, IBÉRICA), conferences (ISWC, ESWC, TIA, COLING, LREC, EKAW, AESLA, AELFE, CAEPIA) and workshops (NLP & DBpedia, STAIRS,…).
