Bio
My teaching and research career began in 1995 in the Dep. Physical Chemistry of UCLM), as an FPU fellow. From 1998, I was contracted, always at full time, under different academic positions and I am currently holding a Full Professorship position within the FOTOAIR group, member of the Research Institute on Combustion and Atmospheric Pollution of UCLM.
My TEACHING AND FORMATIVE ACTIVITY, held for more than 20 years at the UCLM, has focused on fundamental, obligatory and optional subjects of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle of various curricula. I am co-author of 12 chapters of teaching books and I took several training courses in teaching innovation. I supervised 3 doctoral thesis (2 international mention) + 3 thesis in progress + 3 DEAs + 4 TFG + 4 Master TFM.
Since 1997, I have been participating in internal, regional, national and international research projects. My RESEARCH ACTIVITY was dedicated to the chemical kinetics of gas-phase processes of interest in the Combustion field (T>780 K) during my Master degree. I moved to the Atmospheric Chemistry (AtmChem) field (T< 300 K) during my PhD thesis (2001) and my postdoctoral stay at NOAA (USA) supervised by Prof. Ravishankara, one of the most prestigious researchers within AtmChem field (co-chair of WMO/UNEP panel). During my postdoc, I was funded by JCCM, UCLM and hired as a Research Associate by Univ. Colorado. Going down in temperature, I started in 2010 a new research line devoted to the gas-phase kinetics of reactions of great interest in Astrophysics, particularly, in the Interstellar Medium (T=10-100 K). This new research line has a huge impact in the Astrophysical community and a CRESU system was built initially for accomplishing the objectives of a national CONSOLIDER-INGENIO2009 project (ASTROMOL). Apart from the international collaborations within the AtmChem field, fruitful new collaborations with prestigious researchers in the field of Astrophysics were born thanks to ASTROMOL and, more recently, a ERC Synergy grant NANOCOSMOS. Last year, I co-authored a review in Angewandte Chemie with the CRESU’s father (B. Rowe) and one of his disciples, A. Canosa, on the CRESU technique. My interests and objectives will, then, continue being focused on reactive atmospheric and astrochemical processes.
The most relevant scientific/technological achievements are:
• The design, construction and set-up of all the complex experimental systems employed in the kinetic studies
• Authorship of around 70 publications (articles, book chapters and books)
• Organization of 4 international congresses and workshops
• Editor of two books in Handbook Environ. Chem. and a special volume of the Environ. Sci. Pollut. Res. journal (Ed. Springer)
• Communications to >100 congresses, some as invited speaker
• Editorial Advisory Board of the ACS Environ. Sci. Tech. (2010-2015) and Curr. Env. Eng. (2013-2015)
• Evaluation of numerous international scientific publications (articles and book chapters for WMO and NASA/SPARC panels), Iberoamerican research projects, faculty positions (Sweden and Spain)
• Evaluator and board member in PhD thesis (France, UK, India, Denmark and Spain)
• Contribution to kinetic and photochemical databases
My EXPERIENCE IN MANAGEMENT is reflected in the administration of resources and personnel, control of costs and preparation of reports of NANOCOSMOS and ASTROMOL projects. Since 2009 I am the vice-head of the Dep. Physical Chemistry.
