Professor Eleanor Shaw is an Associate Principal at the University of Strathclyde with responsibility for the University’s entrepreneurship strategy, Strathclyde Inspire. She is also Director of the institution-wide, Strathclyde Doctoral School.
Eleanor joined Strathclyde in 2001 first, with the Department of Marketing before joining the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship in 2012 of which she become Head in 2013. She went on to become Vice Dean for Knowledge Exchange and Senior Vice Dean (Deputy Dean) of Strathclyde Business School for three tears. In January 2020, Eleanor became an Associate Principal and joined the University’s Executive Team.
Eleanor’s research is focused on the practice of entrepreneurial networking and the relationship between entrepreneurial agents and firm growth. She is particularly interested in entrepreneurial diversity, and her work on women’s entrepreneurship, graduate entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship and creative entrepreneurship is published in leading journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship, Theory & Practice, Human Relations and International Small Business Journal. Eleanor’s research has been funded by the ESRC and EPSRC as well as a range of private sector organisations including Barclays and public agencies including Scottish Enterprise, the Cabinet Office, and Glasgow City Council. She is currently a Co-I of the ESRC-funded ProPEL Hub (Productivity Outcomes of workplace Practice, Engagement and Learning) - a UK-wide research network working in partnership with the CIPD to support improvements in productivity through enhanced workplace practices and employee engagement.
Eleanor is an inclusive entrepreneurial leader with more than 25years of experience of encouraging founders to growth of their ventures through innovation, enhanced productivity and an entrepreneurial culture. She is co-designer of the Growth Advantage Programme (GAP) - a leadership and growth programme for ambitious entrepreneurs committed to growing their business through innovation, a commitment to values, and an inclusive leadership style. GAP is endorsed by the ScaleUp Institute and is one of only two leadership programmes in the UK to be designed and delivered by faculty and entrepreneurs.
Complimenting her research and teaching interests, Eleanor was elected to sit on the Council of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS). She also sits on the Small Business Charter (SBC) Management Board, the People, Talent and Leadership Committee of the ScaleUp Institute and is a trustee of the Beatson Cancer Charity and Enable Scotland.
Eleanor was awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Year's Honors List for her services to entrepreneurship and education.
