Bio
Edward H. Aifer received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Boston University, Boston, MA, USA, in 1997.
He came to U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), as a Post-Doctoral Fellow, to work on type-II superlattice mid-wave infrared (IR) lasers. In 1999, he was hired as a Staff Scientist at the Solid State Devices Branch, NRL, where he began working in his principal field of III-V IR sensors. He is currently the Head of the Infrared Materials, Sensors, and Detectors Section. He has co-authored 47 refereed journal articles, six patents, and 39 conference presentations. His current research interests include plasmonic coupling in mid-IR sensors, high quantum efficiency longwave IR sensors, novel bolometer materials, and Ge-Sn materials for direct integration on silicon.
