Bio

Edwin J. Asturias is Professor of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology of the University of Colorado (UC). Director for Latin America at the Center for Global Health. A native of Guatemala trained as an MD (University of San Carlos, 1989) and boarded in pediatrics and infectious diseases at UC and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His career focused on establishing the epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases in low and middle income countries, determining the factors that influence the introduction of new, and exploring the emergence of new infectious diseases. My research interest is now focused on vaccine safety, schedules, and the application of innovative technologies to optimize immunization for children.
