Edward is the Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Polyu). Prior to joining PolyU, Edward was the inaugural Director of the Smart Transport Research Centre and Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He is an internationally recognised expert in the application of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) with many years of experience as an engineer and an experienced academic and researcher working both nationally and internationally. Recently appointed to QUT, Edward is focusing on leading research to realise the benefits of real-time travel information provision in reducing congestion. He was previously Head of the ITS group at Laboratoire des Voies de Circulation (LAVOC) at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, where he led large project teams on traffic and safety monitoring in Europe. He is also a visiting professor at the Advanced Mobility Research Centre (ITS Centre) located at the University of Tokyo. Edward’s practical experience includes several EU-funded projects including: Intelligent Roads; real-time monitoring, surveillance and control of road networks under adverse weather conditions; and as task leader on the Network of Excellence for Advanced Road Cooperative Traffic management in the Information Society. With experience and influence in research into modelling and simulation; real time travel information prediction; effects of weather on driver behaviour; traffic safety monitoring; and vehicle emission modelling and traffic noise mapping, Edward has a significant understanding of the challenges facing South-East Queensland and Australia in alleviating transport congestion. Edward holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours, and a PhD from Monash University.
