Research
The research activity has concerned first fundamental aspects of metrology (absolute determination of the silicon lattice constant and the development of a model to study the propagation of x-rays in a polylitic LLL x-ray interferometer) and next experimental solid state physics, and, in particular, in the synthesis and characterization of advanced semiconductor and insulator materials.
He is author of more than 180 papers in peer reviewed international journals and has given several invited talks in international conferences on ion beam analysis.
Since 2011, he is the coordinator of the Solid State Physics Group at the University of Torino (www.solid.unito.it)
Research activities:
- Deposition and characterization of a-Si:H for solar cells
- Synthesis of diamond films by the HFCVD method to fabricate diamond micro-dosimeters and nuclear detectors.
- Development of new Ion Beam Analysis techniques and in particular the Ion Beam Induced Charge Collection technique (IBIC) for the characterization of the transport properties of semiconductor materials (Si, diamond, SiC, GaAs) and devices and for the determination of their relevant radiation hardness.
- Study of the damage of diamond induced by MeV ion beams in order to develop new lithographic techniques for the fabrication of microdevices.
- Development of a new ionoluminescence set-up for the electro/optical characterization of diamond, cBN and art objects.
- Study the functionalisation of the diamond surface to stimulate and record the electrical activity of living cells.
- Synthesis and characterization of 2D (graphene, hBN) materials.
