Ecaterina Andronescu was born in Malovat, Romania, April 7, 1948. She received the Ph. D. degree in solid state physical chemistry from University Politehnica of Bucharest, Department of Science and Engineering of Oxidic Materials, Bucharest, in 1983.
She is a Professor at University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, Department of Science and Engineering of Oxidic Materials since 1972. She has published more than 100 journal papers. Her research interests include synthesis and characterization of biomaterials, nanomaterials, and their application in medicine. Assistant professor; lecturer; reader; professor at UPB, Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, Department of Science and Engineering of Oxidic Materials (1972-present); Vice-dean, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Industrial Chemistry (1989–1992); Dean, U.P.B., Faculty of Industrial Chemistry (1992–2004); Secretary of State for Higher Education, Ministry of Education (1995–1996); Ph. D. supervisor in Chemical Engineering (1996); Member of the Romanian Parliament, Secretary and member of the Committee on Education, Science, Youth and Sports, Chamber of Deputies, Romanian Parliament (1996–2008); Member of the Romanian Senate, Vice-president of the Commission of Education, Science, Youth and Sport (2008-present); Minister of the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research (2009, 2001–2003, 2012-present); President of New Materials, Micro and Nano Technologies—MATNANTECH, Research Program PNCDI (2002–2008); President of the National Council of the Rectors (2004–2012); Rector, U.P.B (2004–2012).
Prof. Andronescu has received the following academic titles: Doctor Honoris Causa—University of Reşiţa (2007); Doctor Honoris Causa–“Ovidius” University of Constanţa (2006); Doctor Honoris Causa—“Andrei Şaguna” University of Constanţa (2005); Doctor Honoris Causa—University Politehnica of Timişoara, University of Bacău, “Ştefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, University of Petroşani, University of Baia Mare (2004); Doctor Honoris Causa—“Gh. Asachi” Thenical University of Iaşi, “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad (2003).
