Donald Tryk is carrying out research on the catalysis of fuel cell reactions such as the oxygen reduction reaction and hydrogen oxidation reaction using density functional theory. He has been working in the following areas: organic electrochemistry, fuel cell electrochemistry, photocatalysis, photoelectrochemistry, analytical electrochemistry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and density functional theory.
