个人简介
Dirk Jancke founded the Optical Imaging Group at the Institut für Neuroinformatik, Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He studied Sport Science (German Sport University Cologne) and Biology (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Münster) and received his PhD from the Ruhr University Bochum in 1997. From 2000 to 2002 he joined Amiram Grinvald’s lab at the Weizmann Institute, Israel, as a Minerva research fellow.
Essentially, Dirk Jancke’s research focusses on visual brain functioning trying to understand how the brain exploits its limited capacities to organize both flexible and stable behavior under ever changing environmental conditions and tasks.
Using in vivo optical imaging in combination with optogenetic tools, his work aims at elucidating the influence of excitability and neuromodulation, as well as the associated reorganization of brain neuronal networks underlying visual perception and learning. In this context, his lab investigates how spatiotemporal patterns of brain activity reflect short-term plastic changes and how working memory traces influence expectation and decision processes. The used optical imaging methods allow recording of electrical activity of millions of neurons at once (for a review see "VSDI: a new era in functional imaging of cortical dynamics" and our contribution therein - https://www.nature.com/articles/nrn1536), thus providing access to the complex dynamics observed within the brain.
