Bio
My research interests lie in improving radiation treatment and developing new technologies and therapies while having low radiotoxicity in normal tissues. Recently my focus is on elucidating the mechanism of radiation-induced lymphopenia to help improve radiation therapy in immuno-compromised patients and improve outcomes. Lymphopenia is significant and persistent after chemoradiotherapy for various cancers including glioblastoma and lung cancer. We and others have demonstrated that lymphopenia is correlated to overall survival. The biological mechanisms for prolonged lymphopenia are not clearly understood. my goal is to have a better understanding of the biological mechanisms of radiation therapy to develop novel therapeutic strategies to effectively control cancer while minimizing normal tissue injury.
