Her specialism is Structural Resilience Engineering with particular emphasis on the assessment, strengthening, preservation and resilience of existing buildings, structures, transport infrastructure and cultural heritage. Her current research focuses on resilience of structures and infrastructure to Climate Change and geophysical hazards, supported through research grants funded by Horizon Europe and UKRI. She has 25 years’ experience working with international agencies, the World Bank, ODA, UNDP, British Council, the UK FCDO in countries such as Nepal, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, Philippines etc., and leading interdisciplinary projects on enhancing infrastructure resilience against natural hazards. She has produced Guidelines for DfID on assessment and strengthening of hospitals and reconstruction efforts in Nepal. She is the chief scientist for the World Bank on the Global Programme for Safe Schools (GPSS) and leads the development of the World Bank GLOSI project. Currently she works in close collaboration with UNESCO to embed a technical culture on risk and resilience of infrastructure in tertiary education worldwide. Dina is Associate Editor of the European Bullet of Earthquake Engineering, Associate Editor of Nature Scientific Report and a long standing member of EEFIT, for which she has led numerous reconnaissance mission worldwide.
