Bio
Dr. Diego Valderrama is a natural resource economist with broad expertise on the economics of marine resources. He earned an M.Sc. in Aquaculture/Fisheries from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (USA) and a Ph.D. degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from the University of Rhode Island (USA). He has examined the economic and environmental performance of a number of fisheries in the U.S and Latin America (Atlantic sea scallops, Alaskan salmon, Colombian shrimp). In addition, he has investigated the production and environmental economics of a broad range of aquaculture species (shrimp, tilapia, catfish, scallops, seaweeds, others). During 2009-2010, Dr. Valderrama was an Aquaculture Economist with the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department. He was affiliated with the Food and Resource Economics Department at the University of Florida (USA) during 2011-2016, and the School of Management at the University of los Andes (Colombia) during 2016-2018. He joined the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at George Mason University (USA) in August 2018 where he continues to conduct research on the sustainable utilization of living marine resources.
