个人简介
Dennis L. Hartmann is an atmospheric scientist recognized for his work in atmospheric dynamics and in the role of clouds in Earth’s climate. He is known particularly for quantifying the positive feedback between eddies and zonal mean flow in the atmosphere and for showing that tropical convective anvil clouds tend to maintain a constant top temperature as climate changes, inducing a positive longwave cloud feedback. Hartmann was born in Oregon and grew up in Sublimity, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in mechanical engineering, and from Princeton University with a PhD in geophysical fluid dynamics. He was a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University and the National Center for Atmospheric Research before joining the faculty of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Meteorological Society and the American Geophysical Union. He was awarded the Carl-Gustaf Rossby Research Medal of the American Meteorological Society and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Public Service Medal.
