Davide Rossi

Prof. Dr. med. Davide Rossi obtained a Medical Degree magna cum laude from the Amedeo Avogadro University of Eastern Piedmont (2000), then trained in Internal Medicine (board certification in 2005) and Hematology (board certification 2020) and obtained a Ph.D. in Clinical and Experimental Medicine (2009). From 2008 to 2015, he worked as Senior-consultant and Assistant Professor of Hematology at the Division of Hematology, Department of Translational Medicine and Maggiore della Carita’ Hospital, Universita’ del Piemonte Orientale, Novara, Italy, where he coordinated an independent clinical and research unit dedicated to lymphoproliferative disorders. Currently, Prof. Rossi works as Deputy Head in the Division of Hematology of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland, as the Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Hematology in the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR), Bellinzona, Switzerland, and as Associate Professor of Medicine in the Università della Svizzera italiana, Lugano, Switzerland. Taking together the investigational research records of Prof. Rossi, he is recognized as scientist at the national and international levels, and has achieved a well-recognized international standing in the lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia fields, as granted by his publication and research grant records. Prof. Rossi been the recipient of grants from the European Research Council, Swiss National Fund, Swiss Cancer league, Leukemia & Lymphoma society and other national and international funding agencies. As co-chair of the Clinical Lymphoid Tumors Investigation Program (CLIP) of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland, and as member of the Scientific Committee of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK), Prof. Rossi developed and is the PI of institutional and national clinical trials in the field of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphomas. Prof. Rossi contributes to the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia guidelines, participates to the writing of the WHO Classification, and is regularly invited to give lectures at international meetings. He is member of the International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and he is part of the Organizing and Program Committee of the International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma and of the European Society of Medical Oncology Congress. Prof. Rossi operates within an extended network of national and international collaborations, as documented by several collaboration-driven publications. He has been awarded the “Sivia Fiocco” prize of the Italian National Academy of Science for his research in the field of lymphomas, the “Ellermann” prize of the Swiss Society of Hematology, and the Rober Wenner Award of the Swiss Cancer League. Over the last years, Prof. Rossi has been working on the molecular pathogenesis and translational research of mature B-cell tumors. In these fields, original and ground-breaking contributions of Prof. Rossi include: i) definition of the molecular bases of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (i.e., seminal identification of TP53, NOTCH1, SF3B1 and BIRC3 mutations; molecular characterization of Richter's transformation) ii) definition of the molecular bases of marginal zone lymphomas (i.e., seminal identification of NOTCH2, KLF2 and non-canonical NF-κB gene mutations in marginal zone lymphoma; description of molecular subtypes of marginal zone lymphomas); iii) genetic typing and residual disease monitoring of lymphomas by using circulating tumor DNA. Several of his findings are included in the current disease description of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and of marginal zone lymphomas by the WHO Classification of lymphoid tumors. Overall, Prof. Rossi is author of more than 300 peer reviewed publications (total IF: 4969, total citations: 28338; h-index: 84).
