Davide Calonico

Davide Calonico received the Ph.D. degree in metrology from the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, in 2003. He works on primary metrology, atomic clocks, quantum technologies, and digital innovation at the Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRIM), Turin, Italy, where he is the Head with the Quantum Metrology Division. He realized the Italian Quantum Backbone, 1850 km of optical fibers across Italy, devoted to research and innovation in quantum tech (sensing, metrology, communication). Since 2017, he has been the President of the Board on the Consortium Top-IX, and since 2019, he has been the Italian Delegate in the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure initiative of the European Commission. He has coauthored more than 60 publications in international journals, among them Science, Nature Physics, Optica, and Physics Review Letters (H-index 25 in March 2023). He coordinated several projects funded by Italian institutions, EU Commission, and private companies. Since 2023, he is the coordinator of Quantum Italy Deployment (QUID)–the national realization of the European Qauntum Communciation Infrastructure, funded by the Digital European Program.
