His work focuses on the application of chemistry to solve problems related to biomolecular structure, function, and activity, especially as they relate to drug design and discovery. His lab has pioneered the development of structure-based models for opioid ligand design, described novel catalytic inhibitors of topoisomerase II for use in cancer treatments, and advanced the design of TLR7/8 immunostimulatory agents with cytokine-specific attenuation in generating a robust immune response for the design of adjuvants.
