Research Interests Our lab is focused on how the body responds to a decrease in tissue oxygenation or hypoxia, which is relevant in many physiological and pathophysiological conditions (e.g. living at high altitude, exercise performance, sleep disorders or cancer). We use genetic engineered mouse models to delete hypoxia inducible factors (HIFs) in specific cellular settings. In particular, I am investigating how HIFs influence the autonomic nervous system, including the carotid body, and the potential correlation to human diseases such as pulmonary hypertension, polycythemia, systemic hypertension or diabetes.
