Dr David Boocock is Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Proteomics in the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and heads the Biological Mass Spectrometry & Clinical Proteomics Group, focusing on biological mass spectrometry for biomarker discovery (primarily proteomics, including small molecule/metabolites). After a PhD in Pharmacology & Therapeutics (MRC funded) at The University of Liverpool and a Post Doc at the MRC Toxicology Unit (Leicester) examining the metabolic toxicity of tamoxifen and related compounds utilising accelerator mass spectrometry, in 2000 he shifted the focus of his research to cancer prevention using naturally derived compounds (nutriceuticals), primarily the phytoalexin resveratrol, in clinical trials (Phase I, II) establishing novel HPLC and LCMS methods for DMPK studies. His current research interests are directed toward quantitative mass spectrometry of proteins/small molecules in biomarker discovery in cancer and other diseases, having established the quantitative mass spectrometry facility at Nottingham Trent University.
