I believe that conducting research work can be challenging for students, so I tend to take a softer approach. I usually offer questions and suggestions to help authors improve, giving them a chance to revise. If another team's work is too similar to mine and they could be competitors, it may lead to bias, so I avoid reviewing in these cases. I decline review requests instead of nitpicking or rejecting papers. This is unlike some teams who are harsh toward unfamiliar peers in the same field.
