Bio
Daryoosh Saeedkia (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 1995 and 2001, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree (with Hons. for outstanding achievement in graduate studies) in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2005. From 2005 to 2006, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow and then a Research Assistant Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Waterloo, where he initiated the Terahertz Research Group and developed the Microwave and Terahertz Photonics Integrated System Laboratory, for which he was the Coordinator in 2006. In 2007, he was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow with McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada. In 2008, he was a Visiting Faculty with the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. He was the CTO of T-Ray Science Inc. since its inception in 2006 until the company successfully completed an IPO in 2009. In 2010, he founded TeTechS Inc., Waterloo, a terahertz technology solution company involved in the commercialization of terahertz imaging and sensing instruments and systems for industrial and scientific applications. He has authored or coauthored more than 51 papers in journals and conferences, a book entitled the Handbook of Terahertz Technology for Imaging, Sensing, and Communications (Woodhead Publishing, 2013), and a book chapter. He has delivered 12 invited talks. His research interests include terahertz spectroscopy and imaging, and novel optoelectronic and terahertz photonic devices. Dr. Saeedkia was the recipient of the NSERC Innovation Challenge Award in 2006, NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in 2007, and Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence in Canada in 2008.
