Bio
Dario I. Carrasco received the Ph.D. degree in exercise physiology from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA, in 1996, where he studied the effect of exercise on muscle sympathetic nerve activity.
He is with the Department of Neurosurgery, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, USA. In 1996, he joined the Arthur English Laboratory, Atlanta, GA, USA, Department of Cell Biology to study neuromuscular compartments. In 2003, he joined the Martin Pinter’s Laboratory, Atlanta, where his primary focus revolved around researching the peripheral molecular mechanisms responsible for the onset of motor neuron disease. In 2015, he joined the Timothy Cope’s Laboratory, Atlanta, where his main focus of study was understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the changes in neuronal excitability observed in sensory and motor neurons after trauma, disease and chemotherapy-induced injury. He currently works with Nicholas AuYong’s Laboratory, Atlanta, where his main focus is to study spinal neuronal network activity during locomotor behaviors. From the beginning of his career, his main interest has been to understand the interaction between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, particularly in the cellular and molecular mechanisms that allow these two systems to interact and influence each other.
Dr. Carrasco was a recipient of the Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Institute of Health to study the effect of neurotrophins on the development of muscle fiber phenotype in 2000.
