Daniele Theseider Dupré was born in Italy in 1965 under the sign of Scorpio (in cauda venenum). Not that he believes in astrology, but this could be a good excuse, should someone get the impression he has a bad temper.
Americans could refer to him as "Ms Daniele T. Dupré", but:
"Theseider Dupré" is his family name, not just "Dupré", and it does come from France, even if the first word does no longer sound like French; older versions, such as Teyssèdre, did. Then, the notion of its correct pronunciation is more nonsense than the one for "Frankenstein" [cf. Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks 1974].
As you may have guessed already :-), in spite of the more or less French family name, and the trailing "e" in the first name, he's male: Daniele is the male Italian version, "Danielle", and, less often used, "Danièle", are the French female versions.
Such confusions are sometimes source of fun for him. E.g., once he was reviewing conference papers for a (female) program committee member who only knew him through email, and initially believed he was a woman. Later, she admitted she had found his reviews "slightly abrasive (even though the criticism were justified)", but when she realized he was male, his reviews seemed "quite gentle".
The use of his acronym "dtd" dates back to 1990, probably before DTD became widely used for Document Type Definition.
He received the degree in Computer Science from the University of Torino, Italy, in 1988 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the same university in 1994.
He is currently Associate Professor at the Dipartimento di Scienze e Innovazione Tecnologica - Sezione di Informatica of Università del Piemonte Orientale (University of East Piedmont)
Previously he was with the Dipartimento di Informatica (Department of Computer Science) of the University of Torino, and he still cooperates with it.
