Dr. Daniel Sonntag is a principal researcher and principal investigator/project leader at DFKI (Intelligent User Interfaces) reader at Saarland University and University of Kaiserslautern, and permanent member of the editorial board of the German Journal on Artificial Intelligence (KI). He has worked in natural language processing, multimodal interface design, question answering, dialogue systems, multimodal multi-sensor interfaces, information extraction, and knowledge representation for over 18 years and leads a team of more than 10 full-time researchers and engineers at DFKI, and 6 (PhD/Msc) students, and supervises the work of 7 international and 5 national research partners in 2 national (BMBF and BMWi) and 2 European projects (H2020). In 2009, he completed SmartWeb's mobile interaction design and part of its technical infrastructure which has been industrialised by Apple (Siri). In 2011, he won the German High Tech Award with RadSpeech, a semantic dialogue system for radiologists. His research interests include intelligent user interfaces (IUIs), multimodal multisensor interfaces for medical and health systems in particular, common-sense and machine learning methods for human computer interfaces and knowledge discovery, cognitive modelling with ontologies, and usability for the Internet of the Future.
