Bio
After completing his Degree in Physics in 2014 and doing a Master Thesis in the Department of Energy and Fluid Mechanical Engineering in 2015, Dr. Daniel Lozano Martín was awarded with a competitive PhD grant from University of Valladolid (UVa) financed by the European Social Fund and Banco Santander. Dr. Daniel obtained his PhD from the Fluid Thermodynamic Engineering program at UVa in July 2019, deserving the highest qualification (Apto Cum Laude), the International Mention, and the Extraordinary PhD Award.
During his PhD he undertook 1 three-months international research stay at Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (Italy, 2017). After his PhD, he carried out 2 six-months international research stays at the Centro de Química Estrutural of the University of Lisbon (Portugal, 2020) and the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France, 2021). These stays were funded with 2-mobility grants founded by UVa and resulting directly in 3 research publications. In 2022, he joined the GETEF research group (ordinary member) occupying a research-teaching position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at UVa.
In an early period of his research career, he has focused on the thermodynamic properties’ characterization of gaseous mixtures of energetic interest at high pressures (up to 200 bar) with the most accurate techniques available. These include the study of density with a single-sinker magnetic suspension densimeter, and speed of sound with a spherical acoustic resonator of binary mixtures of the components present in natural gas (methane, nitrogen, CO2, propane, carbon monoxide, oxygen, hydrogen, helium) and of refrigerant fluid gases (R1234ze(Z)).
In a second stage, he extended his research scope to mixtures of complex liquids, studying properties such as the thermal conductivity, the CO2 and N2 solubility, and the surface tension in aqueous mixtures of innovative ionic liquids. He also undertook fundamental research in metrology, primary calibration, and fundamental constants determination.
The work of his scientific-teaching career is collected in 18 papers in international JCR-indexed and peer-reviewed journals, most of them above the first quartile (Q1) and all of them exceeding the first tertile (T1), 4 book chapters, and 23 works presented at 3 national congress and 12 international congresses. All these contributions have received a total of 96 citations from 68 papers in Scopus, a total of 77 citations with an average of more than 12 citations per year in WOS and a total of 121 citations in Scholar, all since his first publication in 2016. He has an h-index of 6 in Scopus, 6 in WOS, and 6 in Scholar.
He has participated in four European R&D projects (BIOGAS - ENG54, MEFHYSTO - 19ENG03, DECARB - 20IND10 and PROMETH2O - 20IND06), two National R&D projects (ENE2013-47812-R and ENE2017-88474-R), and two Regional R&D projects (VA035U16 and VA035U16).
Dr. Daniel has supervised 1 international doctoral thesis defended in 2022 in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His PhD student, Gerald Ugwu Akubue, completed two long-term stays within the Erasmus+ Program KA107-36589 ICM-UVa, where he was supervised by Dr. Daniel to perform the experimental and thermodynamic modeling tasks of CO2 mixtures relevant for oxy-fuel capture processes, the main topic of Gerald’s PhD thesis. He has also supervised 4 undergraduate final projects, 1 master's degree final project, and he has the accreditation to the position of Associate Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) from ANECA.
He has been reviewer of articles for JCR journals such as Journal of Chemical Engineering Data (6), Separation Science and Technology (1), Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering (1), DYNA Energía y Sostenibilidad (2), and Revista UIS Ingenierías (2).
