个人简介
Daniel G. Peterson is the Director of the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing & Biotechnology (IGBB; www.igbb.msstate.edu) at Mississippi State University (MS State; www.msstate.edu). As IGBB Director, Dr. Peterson helps Mississippi scientists organize and lead high-throughput, multi-disciplinary projects focused on understanding the biomolecular interactions underlying the diversity, value, and sustainability of species of agricultural, medical, bioenergy, and/or ecological importance. Peterson is also a Professor in MS State's Department of Plant & Soil Sciences.
Dr. Peterson's research is focused on exploring the structure and evolution of eukaryotic genomes (principally crop/aquaculture species) using genomic, cytogenetic, and molecular biology techniques. By elucidating and comparing the genomes/genes of a diverse group of organisms, his research group is illuminating trends in molecular evolution and discovering those sequences responsible for economic and adaptive traits. Such research will ultimately lead to crop improvement through marker-aided selection strategies and/or genetic engineering. Additionally, Peterson's group is investigating repetitive DNA sequences and their role in genome evolution.
Dr. Peterson received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees (1991, 1993, and 1998, resp.) from Colorado State University (cytogenetics/molecular biology; advisor: Stephen M. Stack). He then worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Georgia for three years (genomics; advisor: Andrew H. Paterson) before becoming a faculty member at MS State in 2002.
