Career Trajectory
Bio
Dale H. Mugler received the B.A. in mathematics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1970 and the Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, in 1974.
His research involves computational methods related to signal and image processing, particularly biomedical applications of Fourier analysis and wavelet theory. Besides a new algorithm for the FFT suited for parallel computation, his recent work includes stable methods for numerical integration of signals, and a new set of orthogonal discrete Hermite functions for Fourier matrices, with applications in electrocardiogram analysis. He has taught at Syracuse University, Santa Clara University, and has been at the University of Akron since 1989. He was a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for research at the TH Aachen, Germany, in 1983-1984. He has spent five summers at two different NASA Research Centers (computational biology at NASA-Ames and NASA-Glenn) under the NASA-ASEE program. He has three patents, and another presently in process.
