个人简介
Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and Head of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UTS, Daichao Sheng is helping solve key scientific and engineering problems, and training the next generation of research leaders.
He also serves the engineering field as a fellow of key professional bodies and via his involvement with various professional journals.
Daichao’s research is applied to the design and construction of railway and highway embankments and airport pavements. He also researches contaminant site remediation, slope stability analysis, in-situ soil testing, and mine waste cover systems. He has published widely in these areas.
His research interests include also computational geomechanics, unsaturated soils, cold region geotechnics and environmental geotechnics.
Prior to joining UTS in 2019, Daichao was a Professor and Co-Director of the Priority Research Centre for Geotechnical Science and Engineering at the University of Newcastle.
He also holds a conjoint Distinguished Professorship at the National Engineering Laboratory for High-Speed Railway Construction in China.
He has been awarded the RM Quigley Award by the Canadian Geotechnical Society; the John Booker Medal by the International Association of Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), and; the Vice-Chancellor's Supervision Excellence Award (University of Newcastle).
He delivered the EH Davis Lecture at the Australian Geomechanics Society in 2015; and the Second Asia-Pacific Distinguished Lecture on Unsaturated Soils at the Asia-Pacific Conference on Unsaturated Soils, in Japan, in 2019.
He is currently one of the two Editors-in-Chief of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and serves on the editorial boards of three other international journals.
Daichao is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. He received a BSc degree from Lanzhou University in China, and an Engineering Licentiate degree and a Doctor of Engineering degree from Lulea University in Sweden.
