Bio
David L. Wright received the B.S. degree in physics from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, the M.S. degree in physics from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
His early professional experience included the design of nuclear electromagnetic pulse simulators with EG&G and the Dikewood Corporation, Albuquerque, NM. In 1973, he was an Assistant Professor of electrical engineering with Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Since 1978, he has been with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Denver, CO, where he specializes in electromagnetic geophysical instrument development and in situ electromagnetic geophysical measurements and applications. His design and development experience includes the first airborne radar system to successfully map the subglacial topography of a temperate valley glacier (Columbia Glacier, AK, 1978). Since then, he has designed and developed, or guided the development of, several surface and borehole ground penetrating radar systems, a dielectric logging tool, well-to-well tomography systems, and the very early time electromagnetic system. He has used these systems in Greenland, Antarctica, Canada, and many states for environmental- and global-change studies of importance to the USGS, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency, and others. His current research interests include UXO technology development for the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program and the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program.
Dr. Wright was the Chairman of the IEEE Denver/Boulder Joint Chapter on Antennas and Propagation, Microwave Theory, and Techniques, and Geoscience and Remote Sensing.
