Daniel Virella (Nazaré, Portugal, 1966).
1. Academic degrees. Medical Doctor (MD) by Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa (1989). Master of Sciences (MSc) in Epidemiology by Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1994).
2. Professional degrees. Registered physician, paediatrician and neonatologist.
3. Current post as a clinician. Senior Attendant at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Hospital de Dona Estefânia, Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central (CHLC, EPE). Co-head of the Epidemiology and Statistics Analysis Core of the Research Centre of CHLC, EPE.
4. Academic activity in universities. Lecturer in Epidemiology for the Postgraduate Course in Management of Health Institutions for Ordem dos Médicos (Portuguese Medical Association), at Faculdade de Ciências Económicas e Empresariais (School of Business and Economic Sciences) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (2002-2011). Invited lecturer and tutor in the Department of Public Health of Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2004-2005).

Former member of the Executive Board of the Portuguese Association of Epidemiology, the SN-SPP and the Epidemiology Section of the European Society for Paediatric Research.

Member of the team awarded with the 1st Merk Serono Award for Management of Quality in Health 2007 (NICU of Hospital de Dona Estefânia). Member of the team awarded with the 2010 Milupa Scholarship, from the SN-SPP.
