Daniel Toal

Daniel Toal (Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. (Eng.) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dublin (TCD), Dublin, Ireland, in 1984, the M.Sc. degree in manufacturing systems engineering from Cranfield University, Cranfield, U.K., in 1986, and the Ph.D. degree in marine robotics from the University of Limerick (UL), Limerick, Ireland, in 2004. He is the Chair of electrical engineering and robotics with the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering, UL, and the Director of the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Limerick. His research interests include renewable energy integration and field robotics for challenging environments [land-based, marine, airborne/remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)]. Prof. Toal was a recipient of the Denny Medal–Best Journal Paper Award 2007/2008–Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology and has given numerous plenary talks internationally.
