个人简介
Chemical Signals include molecules secreted into the body fluids and exocrine glands. In insects, animals, and humans, these meaningful molecules (e.g., pheromones) convey vital information (physiology, status, sex, species, etc.) and are involved in chemical communication. The chemical communication system interlinks signaler and receiver through meaningful signals that are processed using a sophisticated olfactory system and result in specific physiological/behavioral/neuroendocrinological changes. Chemical signals are key compounds in social and sexual communication, and are crucial for the success of reproduction and survival. Many vertebrates rely heavily on chemical signals; therefore, identification of chemical signals have many advantages, specifically in the development of applications. In this purview, our major interests include the following; the characterization of chemical signals in the body secretions of various animals, the formulation of synthetic mixtures to study the behavioral consequences, the study of olfactory and neuronal pathways involved in chemical signaling, and the development of applications (commercial products) to improve reproduction (farm animals) and to control populations (rodents).
