个人简介
As a trained psychologist, my scientific and professional interests lie in psychiatric diseases, and particularly, in understanding the neurobiological base of stress-driven pathologies. My career trajectory has been centered around two aims: to unravel the molecular substrates and neuronal circuits underlying stress-related disorders, and to explore novel treatment options for afflictions where stress is the common denominator.
During my graduate studies, using a plethora of behavioral assays in combination with synaptic proteomics, I studied the effects of social stress on affective behavior and cognition at the preclinical level. Furthermore, I examined individual variability in stress response, as a factor conferring vulnerability to comorbid depression and drug abuse. In my post-graduate work, I investigated the effects of stress on hippocampal plasticity and, funded by a MSCA post-doc fellowship, I utilized different viral approaches to manipulate molecular targets implicated in stress-induced depression. In my current position, funded by a NWO Veni post-doc fellowship, I interrogate endogenous systems that modulate the stress response to promote stress-coping.
