I have led the successful design and development of the KM3NeT acquisition electronics, being the KM3NeT electronics group coordinator since 2013. The coordination duties include assistance to the monthly meeting of the Technical Steering Committee and managing resources (i.e. funds and personnel) to achieve the Collaboration goals on acquisition electronics. The electronics includes 31 TDC channels with a resolution of 1 ns. Moreover, as maintenance is not possible at the Mediterranean Sea abyss, a theoretical and practical evaluation of the electronics reliability has been performed. The synchronisation required has been obtained by integrating the White Rabbit protocol, obtaining 1-ns synchronisation and 1 Gbps data transfer with optic fibre lengths of 100 km. Hitherto, the electronics boards for more than 1200 DOMs have been produced, and 32 lines have already been deployed. I have also led the upgrade of the acquisition electronics. These contributions make me to have a noteworthy contribution to the development of the multi-PMT DOM.
Prior to that, I worked in the design and development of the ANTARES time calibration instrumentation: the LED and the laser beacons. This experience allowed me to design the time calibration instrumentation for NEMO and KM3NeT, developing a laser beacon with an electronics attenuator that enables the control of the light intensity, and the Nanobeacon, a simplified version of the ANTARES LED beacon, which has been integrated into the KM3NeT DOMs, reducing significantly complexity and cost.
