Dónal Sammin, currently serving as the Executive Secretary for EUFMD, is a dedicated veterinary professional hailing from Ireland. With a background in veterinary science, Dónal's journey includes two years as an associate professional officer and a subsequent five-year tenure on the standing technical committee with EUFMD.

His career to date has primarily been dedicated to working with the laboratory services of the Irish Government’s Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM). From 2015 to 2023, as the Head of DAFM Laboratories, he steered a team of 340 scientists and support staff across nine sites.

Under his guidance, the laboratories team engaged in vital work encompassing animal health, food safety, and plant health. Notably, they operate a central laboratory with a recent addition of a high containment facility for FAST diseases, showcasing a commitment for cutting-edge solutions.

Dónal is deeply passionate about the crucial role of veterinary science in global health, and his current role reflects this commitment. As the Executive Secretary of EUFMD, he directs efforts towards advancing the EuFMD's mission to assist Member Nations in preventing, controlling, and eradicating FAST diseases, in alignment with the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FAO's Four Betters, and the Sustainable Livestock Transformation.
