Bio
Cristina Oreto was born in Naples, September 16, 1993. She graduated with honors in Projects and infrastructures management engineering on July 20, 2016, from the University of Naples Federico II with a thesis in construction of roads, railways and airports titled “Experimental analysis aimed at developing provisional models of air voids in bituminous mixtures”.
In 2018, the candidate completed a 150 hours curricular internship at DICEA La.Stra. university laboratory, focusing on experimental procedures for the mix design of cold bituminous mixtures using reclaimed asphalt pavement and their environmental benefits.
On March 18, 2019, she obtained her master’s degree with honors in Hydraulic and transportation systems engineering from the University of Naples Federico II with a thesis in design and maintenance of road pavements titled “Life Cycle Assessment of sustainable bituminous mixtures for flexible road pavements”.
In September 2019, the candidate was awarded a scholarship at the Department of structures for engineering and architecture of University of Naples Federico II that dealt with airport runways modeling in BIM environment.
She was awarded the Ph.D. fellowship in Civil systems engineering in the academic year 2019/2020 (XXXV cycle) at the University of Naples Federico II. Her research activity deals with the integration of digitals tools such as Building Information Modeling with management and maintenance practices of road pavements. The research focuses in particular on the quantification of environmental sustainability of road pavements’ life cycle by means of Life Cycle Assessment methodology, aiming at assessing the benefits of reusing alternative materials into bituminous mixtures.
The candidate is a member of the UNINA local unit for the PRIN Project of 2017, titled “Stone pavements. History, Conservation, Valorisation and Design”.
She has been co-relator of 7 master degree theses in Hydraulic and transportation systems engineering (Disciplinary-scientific area ICAR/04 – Roads, railways and airports) about innovative bituminous materials, titled “Characterization of mechanical and environmental performances of bituminous road pavements” (2019) and “Experimental investigation of the rheological properties of bituminous binders containing plastic waste” (2020), and about Infrastructure-BIM and Heritage-BIM applications to road and archeological pavements, titled “BIM support system for maintenance management of road pavements” (2020), “Integration of Building Information Modeling and Life Cycle Cost Analysis: the case study of Estradas Nacionais (EN2) in Portugal” (2020), “Reverse engineering of historical urban pavements: BIM model of Via Duomo in Naples” (2020), “Stone pavements: H-BIM of Via del Vesuvio in Pompeii archeological site” (2019), “Computational design for modular stone pavements parametric modeling” (2020).
She has been also a co-relator of a master's degree thesis in Construction engineering (Disciplinary-scientific area ICAR/04 – Roads, railways and airports) titled “Management of road pavement performance characteristics in BIM environment” (2020).
She was licensed to practice the engineering profession in November 2019.
The candidate is a guest editor of a special issue of the journal Infrastructures, named “Innovative practices into Road Pavement Maintenance Management”.
In September 2020 she was awarded a study prize by the Department of civil, construction and environmental engineering of University of Naples Federico II.
She attended several training courses and seminars between 2019 and 2020, addressing numerous topics, such as the design of railway and road infrastructures with BIM tools, the latest advances in innovative research for sustainable transportation, statistical models for road safety analysis, innovation management and entrepreneurship.
