Bio
Colin G. Whyte was born in Selkirk, U.K., in 1969. He received the B.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, U.K., in 1991, and the M.Sc. degree in laser physics and pulsed-power technology and Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of St. Andrews, St. Andrews, U.K., in 1992 and 1996, respectively.
Since 1996, he has been with the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K., with the Atoms, Beams and Plasmas Group (ABP Group), Department of Physics, where he is currently a Senior Research Fellow affiliated with the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA). His research interests include the design and experimental investigation of high-power broadband microwave amplifiers and oscillators, including novel helical gyrotron traveling-wave-tube (gyro-TWT) devices and reverse-guide-field free-electron lasers, and RF systems for muon ionization cooling. He also designs and builds high-voltage pulsed-power supplies.
