Claudia Martelli was born on June 21, 1988 in Rome, Italy. She obtained the Bachelor degree with honors in Chemistry at University of Rome “Sapienza” (Italy) in 2010 . For the thesis she attended a traineeship at Department of Chemistry of Sapienza University in collaboration with the INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work)-DIPIA (Research Certification & Verification). Thesis title: “Study of the behavior of the mono-fluorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as potential internal standard for the GC-MS analysis of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons”. In 2012, Claudia Martelli graduated with honors in Analytical Chemistry at University of Rome “Sapienza” (Italy). Traineeship and thesis were carried out at the Institute of Chemistry of Molecular Recognition of CNR (National Research Council) in collaboration with the Institute of Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry of Catholic University of Rome regarding the proteomic analysis of pediatric brain tumors cystic fluids.
Thesis title: “Study of the cystic fluid of craniopharyngioma by means of top-down/bottom-up proteomic platform”.
On November 2012 Claudia Martelli obtained a PhD fellowship in Proteomics at Faculty of Medicine at Catholic University of Rome (Italy). During her PhD courses she studied the proteome of several biological samples (tumur intracystic fluids, saliva, tissues, cerebrospinal fluid) focusing on understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in diseases development and on the research of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers with a particular regard to pediatric brain tumors. For these studies capillary or gel electrophoresis and HPLC (High Pressure Liquid Chromatography) coupled to low and high resolution mass spectrometries (ESI-ion trap, ESI-LTQ-Orbitrap) have been used for the top-down/bottom-up proteomic analyses.
After the PhD in Proteomics on December 2015, actually she has got a research fellowship from Toniolo Institute at Catholic University of Rome for the proteomic characterization of medulloblastoma pediatric brain tumor with the aim of elucidate its molecular mechanisms of onset and progression and to discover new potential therapeutic targets.
