Career Trajectory
Bio
I recently joined the 3D geoinformation group at TU Delft thanks to the Delft Technology Fellowship. My research is focused on wind engineering problems, specifically addressing dispersion and airflow predictions in the built environment. I am interested in renewable energies, as well as mitigation techniques that can allow to prevent and reduce urban pollution. Part of my research focuses on applying uncertainty quantification methodologies for the prediction of winds in the urban canopy.
Before I was a postdoctoral research scientist in Ken Caldeira’s lab at Carnegie Institute for Science. My research is focused on wind engineering related issues, specifically addressing large wind farms effects on land. Some of the goals from this research target to analyze wind farm influences on the surrounding wind flows and the power extraction scalability. I am really interested in renewable energies, as well as mitigation techniques that can allow to prevent and reduce urban pollution.
Prior joining Carnegie Institute for Science, I graduated from my PhD degree at the University of Antwerp in collaboration with the von Karman Institute for fluid dynamics. I was awarded with a grant for strategic basic research from the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders, Belgium. My PhD research focused on quantifying inflow uncertainties for CFD simulations of dispersion in the atmospheric boundary layer. During my PhD, I performed research within the group of Catherine Gorlé completing several collaborations. In 2013 I collaborated with a company, CFD+Engineering, sited in Munich. In 2014, I spent two months as a visiting scholar at the Center for Turbulence in Stanford University. And during 2015, I performed research as a visiting scholar at the Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics department at Columbia University, finishing my PhD thesis as a visiting scholar at Civil and Environmental Engineering department, at Stanford University.
I have a bachelor degree on aeronautic engineering with a master in propulsion by the Polytechnic University of Valencia. During my engineering degree I enrolled as Erasmus student at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy and the Polytechnic University of Montréal, Canada. Afterwards, I completed the Research Master in fluid dynamics from the von Karman Institute, where I became passionate about wind engineering, performing research on high fidelity simulations of the offshore convective boundary layer. These studies enhanced my interest on the developing renewable energy field, and its link with policies that could help the transition to cleaner and more sustainable environments.
