Bio
I am a Civil Engineer, MEng in Hydraulic & Environmental Engineering, MSc in Coastal Engineering & Management, with a Ph.D. in Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wave Modelling & Coastal Processes.
I have written 4 scientific/academic theses at the graduate, post-graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels.
Furthermore, I have 99 published articles, books, book chapters, papers, abstracts, and presentations:
- 17 peer-reviewed articles in international and national scientific journals with impact factor (IF),
- 2 peer-reviewed book chapters,
- 1 academic graduate-level textbook on Coastal Oceanography/Engineering and Maritime Environmental Hydraulics,
- 50 peer-reviewed full papers in the proceedings of international and national scientific conferences
- 16 conference abstracts, and
- 13 miscellaneous publications (newsletters, lectures, etc.).
I am an ad hoc reviewer for 19 journals and 5 conferences (51 reviews) and guest/topic editor in 2 scientific journals.
I have also contributed to the formulation of 60 technical reports in the framework of 16 research projects.
My published research total scores are:
- 72.57 CiteScore points,
- 46.57 IF points,
- 601 h5-index points,
- 631 citations (314 hetero-citations, 49.8%),
- h-index: 14,
- i10-index: 17,
- i1-index: 61,
- ResearchGate Interest score: 762.
Moreover, I received a distinction (Thomaideio) prize for MSc students from NTUA in 2007, and one scholarship for post-doctoral research (IKY-SIEMENS excellence funding of the State Scholarships Foundation; SSF/IKY) in 2016-2017.
In total, I have participated in 16 international and national research projects within the subjects of marine hydrodynamics, coastal and ocean engineering, CFD, physical oceanography, port engineering, coastal zone protection, climate change, etc. in NTUA and AUTh, such as Accu-Waves (http://accuwaves.eu/), Wave4Us (http://wave4us.web.auth.gr/), MEDAQCLIM (http://medaqclim.po42.com/), CCSEAWAVS (http://www.thalis-ccseawavs.web.auth.gr/), TIMMOD (http://timmod.org/), etc.
I have also taught as a University Fellow Scholar in AUTh the 8th-semester courses “Mathematical Modelling of Water Quality in Aquatic Ecosystems”, “Hydraulics for Groundwater Flows”, and “Numerical Models for Hydraulic Engineering” (Program: Development of Human Resources, Education and Lifelong Learning). I further have 7-year experience as a Teaching Assistant for the courses "Harbour Works and Port Engineering" and "Coastal Engineering".
My current research work focuses on:
a) numerical modeling for operational sea-state forecasts (waves, storm surges, and coastal hazards) in and around ports;
b) numerical modeling of coastal flooding and littoral inundation;
c) seawater quality modeling and monitoring;
d) climate change impacts on the coastal zone;
e) coastal water resources management;
f) advanced CFD for coastal processes.
Finally, I am an active member of TCG/TEE, IAHR, EGU, and HHA/EYE associations.
