Physical characterization and materials science professional with 15+ years of experience in designing, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting experiments. Specialized in operando/in-situ techniques using electron and x-ray probes, and thermal analysis coupled with chromatographic and spectroscopic methods. Experienced with a wide variety of materials including, but not limited to, polymers, semiconductors, and energy storage.
Professor Malliakas' research projects focus on the structural characterization of layered distorted chalcogenide materials that possess usually incommensurate modulated superstructures. He uses a variety of non-classical scattering characterization techniques like multidimensional (superspace) crystallography and Pair Distribution Function Analysis (PDF).
