Bio
My research program aims to better understand the processes controlling climate variability over North America and Europe, on timescales ranging from seasons, to decades, to centuries. My primary interest is in the role of the atmospheric circulation in determining regional patterns of temperature and precipitation. Climate change is likely to affect these regional patterns, so my research group uses state-of-the-art computer model simulations to make projections of these expected future changes. Climate models are incredibly complex pieces of software, and run on some of the world's most powerful supercomputers. As such, group members develop skills in physical climatology, data analysis and scientific computing.
