个人简介
I received training in several scientific fields and profited from collaborations with world renowned computational, experimental, and clinical laboratories throughout Europe and the US. I conducted my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Olaf Steinbach and Prof. Gerhard A. Holzapfel, both world leading experts in the fields of computational mathematics and biomechanics, respectively. As a PostDoc I was key investigator in the Computational Cardiology Lab (CCL) of Prof. Gernot Plank, a world leading expert in electrophysiology. As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley I conducted my research in the lab of Prof. Shawn C. Shadden, a world leading expert in the field of hemodynamics. Since September 2019, I am Assistant Professor in computational cardiovascular mechanics at the Medical University of Graz. This career trajectory has allowed me to gain invaluable experience in modeling the physical properties of the heart.
My current research emphasis is the computer simulation of bidirectionally coupled electro-mechano-fluidic models of cardiac function. This is achieved by advanced computational methods that enable multiphysics simulations at an unprecedented level of biophysical and anatomical detail. The unique in-silico framework is validated by comparison to clinical data and allows to accurately predict the electromechanical response of heart and aorta to changes in after- and preload. Due to the high computational costs of these simulations one of my focus areas is high-performance computing, in particular, massively parallel and strongly scalable algorithms. One of my most notable skills is the understanding of different physical concepts and the ability to translate them into mathematical formulas and computer code. I am an excellent software engineer with plenty of experience in C/C++, Fortran, Python/NumPy, Matlab, HTML, and Shell scripting. Due to my Masters studies at the Institute of Statistics at TU Graz I have also a very profound background in mathematical statistics and machine learning.
I am one of the main drivers behind the development of the cardiac modeling framework CARP, considered to be the leading organ-scale cardiac modeling software; see (Websites & Social Links). Here, I developed and contributed to the following building blocks: i) Post-process cardiac image data using semi-automatic algorithms; ii) Simulate cardiac electro-mechanical function with short simulation cycles based on a massively parallel computing approach; iii) Model the bidirectional interaction between blood flow and tissue deformation to quantify the impact of flow upon heterogeneity in mechanical loading; iv) Validate and parameterize the biophysically detailed computer model with patient-specific data.
