Bio
Prof. Dr. Papadopoulou received her BSc in Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in AUTH, Greece (1977), her MSc in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (1979) and her PhD in Microbiology (1984) from the same university. In September 1984 she was elected Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, Medical School, UOI, Greece, in 1989 she got the position of Assistant Professor, in 2006 she got the position of Associate Professor, in 2013 she got position of Full Professor in Microbiology and in 2017 she was elected Director of the Microbiology Department (UOI). She has been trained through long or short sabbaticals in LSHTM and CPHLS (UK), in Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms Universitat, Bonn and University of Cologne (Germany). She has served as Member of several advisory scientific committees for Greek Ministries and National organizations, EU Indepedent Expert evaluator in the Quality of Life, EU National Representative, INTAS expert evaluator, EACEA expert evaluator, Ad hoc Expert for the Republics of Cyprus and Slovakia, Invited Indepedent Expert for the New Eurasia Foundation, Member of the Pool of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Commission Health and Consumers Directorate General (Public Health and Risk Assessment), Member of the ESCMID and the Food & Water-borne Infections Study Group (EFWISG), Diplomate of the ECVPH and member of the Credentials Committee. She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed international and national publications (articles, proceedings, abstracts, book chapters), she has been invited reviewer in over 50 international scientific journals, member of the editorial board or guest editor in 8 international journals and is the single author of a textbook on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (in greek). Her research interests are focused on the detection, identification, and antibiotic resistance of foodborne/waterborne zoonotic pathogens, (bacteria, parasites, fungi) and biotoxins transmitted from animals to humans through the food-chain, bacteria growth kinetics and their survival in the food and aquatic environment. Being a veterinarian working in a Medical School for over 30 years and focusing on zoonotic diseases, she is a strong supporter of the ONE HEALTH Initiative, she is member of the One Health Initiative Support Group (USA) since 2015, and founding member of the Greek Scientific One Health Society (2017). She teached Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, and Food Microbiology and Hygiene at undergraduate level in the School of Health Sciences (UOI, Greece) and at post-graduate level in other Schools of Health Sciences (UOI and UOP, Greece). In June 2020 she was given the title of Professor Emerita.
