个人简介
My research interest has always revolved around understanding the biology of cancer and stem cells, and its application to clinical settings. Following completion of my Master degree studying drug resistance in chronic myeloid leukaemia in University of Malaya (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), I accepted the offer of MIRS and MIFRS scholarships from University of Melbourne in 2012 to pursue a PhD in the leading medical research institute in Australia, the Walter and Eliza Hall institute (WEHI) in Melbourne. In line with my research interests, my PhD project focused on studying hematopoietic stem cell and blood cell development by using tamoxifen-inducible conditional knockout mouse model. Over the 4 years of training in WEHI, I have developed extensive knowledge on stem cell and cancer biology. I have established that homozygous loss of Npm1 function, a gene frequently implicated in hematopoietic disorders, within hematopoiesis resulted in severe stem cell defects and progressive myelodysplastic syndrome. By using genome-wide transcriptome profiling, I further implicated the p53 pathway in the hematopoietic stem cell defects evident in Npm1-null mice. After completing my PhD in 2016, I intend to pursue my scientific career at a challenging, cutting-edge technology post-doctorate position for 5 years, where I can enhance my skills and knowledge on cancer biology. My current position as a Research Fellow in Duke-NUS Medical School allows me to continue embracing genetic tools to understand molecular mechanisms in biological processes closely relevant to human liver cancer.
My current project involves studies of the liver progenitor population, liver cancer, liver regeneration in homeostasis and upon injury by using transgenic mouse models as well as chemical-induced liver injury models. The main techniques include liver perfusion, multicolour flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and RNA sequencing. My project involves studies of multiple transgenic mouse models, which requires management of multiple transgenic mice colonies, careful planning and execution of various experiments at parallel to ensure attainment of data within given timeframe and budget.
