Bio
My research is often interdisciplinary and involves laser light scattering spectroscopy. My recent emphasis is on atmospheric parameter measurements via laser light scattering from atmospheric atoms (Na, K and Fe) and linear molecules (N2, O2, and CO2). In this process, I have pioneered two high-spectral-resolution lidars. With Dave Krueger, we have established the CSU Lidar Observatory in Christman Field (1985-2010). The Sodium lidar there started regular observations in 1991 and it has enabled many important science investigations for details, click here. One amazing example is our record holding 9-day 24-hr continuous observations which exhibits correlated tidal 24-hr and 12-hr variations in raw profiles of temperature, zonal and meridional winds. In 2010, this lidar was relocated to Utah State University and continued observations, now in its 31th years.
